For 2009, changes to the Land Rover Range Rover are minor: upgraded leather, new door seals for a quieter cabin, a dampened tailgate for smoother opening and closing, and new wheel designs.
A new Autobiography Package, available on the Supercharged model, upgrades the interior by adding premium leather upholstery, 14 wood trim pieces, four-zone automatic climate control, climate-controlled glass, Autobiography badge, and standard rear-seat entertainment system.
The Range Rover comes in two models: the HSE, with a 4.4-litre V8, and the Supercharged (S/C) model, with a supercharged 4.2-litre V8. Both use a six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, and both include permanent four-wheel drive. The system includes Terrain Response, with a driver-selectable choice of five modes, for general driving, grass/gravel/snow, mud/ruts, sand, and rock crawl.
Features on the HSE include 19-inch alloy wheels, three-zone automatic climate control, electric parking brake, nine airbags, six-CD Harman/Kardon Logic7 surround sound system with auxiliary input, Sirius satellite radio, navigation system, rearview camera, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, 12-way power driver's seat with three-position memory, Blenheim leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, cruise control, power tilt and telescopic leather-wrapped wheel, power sunroof, auto up/down windows, variable intermittent wipers, rear washer/wiper, Class III towing hitch, power-folding heated mirrors, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic bi-xenon headlamps.
The S/C adds 20-inch alloy wheels, Brembo front brakes, 14-way power heated and cooled front seats, Windsor leather upholstery, black lacquer wood trim, and adaptive bi-xenon headlamps.
The flagship of the Land Rover line, the Range Rover is as seriously capable as it is luxurious, and while you'll probably never get close to tackling sand dunes in Africa, it's nice to know that you could. The new upgrades increase the number of features, even though prices stay the same as in 2008.
